The poet, the mystic and the cat by Leonardo Boff.

The Italian Catholic Church has presented throughout its history a fruitful contradiction. On one side is the strong presence of the Vatican, representing the official Church with its mass of faithful kept under a watchful social control by the doctrines and especially for family and sexual morality. On the other, is the presence of Christians, lay people, non-aligned, strong monarchical power and implacable bureaucracy of the Roman Curia, but open to the gospel and the values Christians, without breaking with the papacy, although critical of its practices and the support given to conservative and even authoritarian regimes.

Thus we have in the nineteenth century the figure of Antonio Rosmini, fine philosopher and critic of anti-modernism of the Popes. In recent times the likes Mazzolari identified, Raniero La Valle, Arturo Paoli, the hermit Maria Campello. Among highlights Adriana Zarrías, hermit, theologian, poet and writer eximia. And several books, wrote weekly in the newspaper Il Manifesto and fortnightly Rocca culture magazine.

was harsh with respect to the current course of the Church under the Popes Wojtyla and Ratzinger, who directly accused of betraying the reform efforts adopted by the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) and to return to a medieval model of exercising power and presence of the Church in society. He died on November 18, 2010 with over 90 years.

I visited a few times in his hermitage near Strambino in northern Italy. She lived alone in a huge, dilapidated mansion, full of roses and his beloved cat Archibald. He had a chapel with the Blessed Sacrament where collected several hours a day in prayer and deep meditation.

In our conversations, she wanted to know all about communities basic church, the Church's commitment to the cause of the poor, blacks and Indians. He had a special affection for the liberation theologians, seeing the suffering persecution by the Vatican officials who treated them, she says, "a stick", while using kid gloves with the schismatic followers of Archbishop Lefebvre .

His latest article, published three days before his death, was dedicated to his dear Archibald. With it, as I witness personally had a loving relationship, as intimate friends. What our great psychoanalyst Jung described in Nise da Silveira his book Gatos, the excitement of live, Zarrías confirmed: "The cat has the ability to capture our mood, if you see me crying, immediately comes to lick my tears." They say that the cat was beside her while expire. Seeing friends arrive for the wake was rolled, nervous, in the shade of the room. Shortly before they closed the coffin, as if he knew the time, went quietly in the chapel.

Someone, knowing the love of the cat by Adriana Zarrías, grabbed her neck and went to the face of the deceased. He looked long, it seemed that tears. After the coffin was under and stayed there in absolute stillness.

This reminds me of our cat Whitey. It seems fragile and elegant girl. So stuck to my companion that always accompanies Márcia and sleeps at his feet, especially when you have a disappointment. Captures their mood and tries to comfort her and meowing, rubbing against it gently. Adriana

Zarrías he wrote his epitaph is worth reproducing: "I do not dress in black: sad and mournful. Or white, it is superb and rhetoric. Vístanme of yellow and red flowers, and wings of birds. And You, Lord, behold my hands. Maybe I have a rosary or a cross. They were wrong. In the hands I have green leaves on the tree, your resurrection. Do not put on my grave a marble cold, with the usual lies to comfort the living. Let the soil type, in the spring, an epitaph of herbs. I lived there and say that I expect. Then, Lord, you will write your name and mine together like two petals of poppies "

writer and mystic eyes open, Adriana Zarrías showed us how to live and die beautiful and sweet.
